GROUNDS MAINTENANCE - AERIFICATION
- FOR THE GOOD OF THE COURSE

During the month of May the Grounds Maintenance Department will be undertaking annual aerification of the Greens, Tees and Fairways, as discussed in the previous issue of this newsletter. As you are no doubt well aware, this process is essential to the long-term health of the turf.

In order that the grass continues to grow healthily, the roots must be deep and must receive a constant supply of oxygen. Aerification is a mechanical process that facilitates air space to the soil and promotes deeper rooting. The process removes small soil 'cores', which are then filled with "topdressing sand" that helps the soil to retain air space and makes it easier for roots to grow downwards.

This annual work is merely a short-term disruption that has long-term benefits for the course. Please look out for the schedule of aerification work which will be posted at the Clubhouse.
